Kathrikkai Kara Kolambu

This is chettinad special dish which I saw in a magazine. It tastes very good and a must try!!

















Ingredients:


Small violet brinjal- 5 to 6
Small Onion - 7 to 10
Garlic- 8 to 10
Tomato- 4
Red chilli- 4
Mustard, Urad dhal, Jeera, Turmeric powder, Chilli powder, Dhania powder, Methi- 1/2 tsp each
Salt and Sesame oil- as required

To grind:

Coconut- 1/4 to 1/2 cup
Cashew- 6

Method:

Wash the brinjals and cut like a flower(remove the stem). Peel the garlic and mash a little. Pour oil in a kadai and add the seasonings. Add onion and saute till golden brown. Add tomatoes and fry. Then add the brinjals and fry well. Add just enough water for it to get cooked. Add tamarind extract and cook well. Then add chilli powder, garlic. turmeric powder, dhania powder and salt. When the oil separates add ground coconut paste. Once it starts boiling remove and serve hot with rice or chappattis.
